Journey to the crown – An exclusive interview with Krishna Finavkar, Miss Teen Diva 2023-24 finalist
Krishna Finavkar from Vadodara, Gujarat has been selected as one of the finalists for the nation’s biggest and most prestigious beauty pageant for teenagers and adolescents - Miss Teen Diva. Born in Petlad, Krishna is a student of MBBS at the Grodno State Medical University. Her journey in the beauty pageant industry began in 2022 when she was crowned the second runner-up at Miss Teen Popular Gujarat competition. Krishna is a polyglot and can speak three languages including Hindi, Gujarati and English. In this exclusive interview with the Beauty High Magazine, she talks about her preparations for the Miss Teen Diva finals and her journey till now.
Q. Many congratulations to you for getting selected for the national finals of Miss Teen Diva 2023-24 competition. How does it feel? What were the first thoughts that crossed your mind when you got the news that you have gotten selected to compete at the 2023-24 Miss Teen Diva contest?
Answer: Thank you very much. Being a part of a platform as big as Miss Teen Diva is something that I have always dreamt of, and being selected for the national finals of Miss Teen Diva contest makes me feel like I am on cloud nine. When I got the mail regarding my selection, I was so overjoyed and excited about being a part of this pageant. Being able to meet Nikhil Sir and the queens was all I could think about but convincing my parents for this pageant was also something that was going on in my mind at that time.
Q. Please tell us more about the place you belong to.
Answer: I belong to Vadodara, Gujarat. Gujarat is a prosperous state with cultural diversity. Gujarat’s culture blends in arts, languages, food, festivals, architecture, tradition and heritage. The local language spoken in Gujarat is Gujarati. Khandvi, Khaman, Fafda-Jalebi are some of the Gujarati food items that people from Gujarat love eating. Festivals like Navratri and Uttrayan are celebrated by people all over the state. Devbhoomi Dwarka in Gujarat is the only city that is a part of both Char Dham and Sapta Puris. Out of the 12 Jyotirlings, two of them, Somanath and Nageshwar are in Gujarat. Girnar Hill is a sacred mountain covered with 866 Hindu and Jain temples. One has to climb 9999 steps to reach its final summit. Other than that, Gir National Park is home to world’s only Asiatic lion population where lions can be seen in its natural habitat. World’s tallest statue, The Statue of Unity with a height of 182 meters is located in Gujarat. Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat is the world’s largest cricket stadium. Talking about Vadodara, it is recognized for being the cultural capital of Gujarat as well as a centre for educational activities. Laxmi Vilas Palace, Nazarbaug Palace and Makarpura palace are the three historical palaces built by the Gaekwads. Another beautiful place to visit in Vadodara is the Hazira Maqbara. When it comes to nature, Sayaji Garden is the best place to visit in Vadodara. At the center of the city is the Sursagar lake and at the center of the lake, there is a 120 feet tall statue of Lord Shiva. As the tall Shiva statue rises from the crystal blue water of the lake, you will feel the power of divinity calming your soul.
Q. Enlighten us regarding your preparations for the upcoming Miss Teen Diva competition.
Answer: I have learnt a lot from the sessions with Nikhil sir and the valuable inputs of the previous queens who tirelessly have worked upon making us a better version of ourselves. I am working on my ramp walk and posing, practicing more and more. I have been practicing how to have a good smile, as I had braces I used to smile with my mouth shut for a long time and it became a habit. After practicing for months, I have attained a beautiful smile now. I was an introvert earlier and I have worked on becoming more confident. I am doing skincare and hair care as it is very essential for a pageant girl to have glowing skin and healthy hair. I have been reading books for a better vocabulary.
Q. In your opinion, what are the qualities / traits that you believe could help you move ahead in the competition?
Answer: I believe the qualities that could help me move ahead in the competition are confidence, determination, hard work and perseverance. I believe that confidence is the key to success and with perseverance and hard work one can be the best version of themselves.
Q. Tell us something about your hobbies and areas of interest.
Answer: I love to dance; dance is a way of expressing my emotions. For me dance is the language of love. I never took any dance classes and I didn’t really get the opportunity to participate in the extracurricular activities while growing up, therefore I am a self-taught dancer. I am a painter; mostly my paintings are of the Lord Shiva, space and nature. When I am painting on the canvas, I feel like I am filling colors in my life. Horseback riding and bike riding are the things that I am interested in although I don’t know how to ride any of them. But it is something that I want to learn and hopefully I will.
Q. Any quote or saying that has a profound impact on you.
Answer: One quote that has a profound impact on me is, “Karm karo par fal mat chaho”. It is a beautiful saying by Shree Krishna which teaches us to complete our duty or to take any action but without being attached to its result /outcome because the outcome is not in our hands, but what we have control on is our actions. I apply this quote in my day to day life, whenever I do something good for the under privileged, I never wish to get anything good in return, I don’t wish for heaven, I don’t wish for things in my life to get better, I do it because I am in the position that I can help them, it’s my duty to help them.
Q. Who / what is your biggest support system?
Answer: My biggest support system is my parents; they have always supported me and motivated me to achieve great things in life. It is my father’s support that let me participate in this pageant, and it is my mother’s support that will let me come back to India for this pageant. They both have equally supported me. My best friend has been a great support to me. He has always helped me out whenever I needed something, I remember him attending my state pageant
Q. When you look back in time, what is the biggest life lesson that you have learnt?
Answer: The biggest life lesson that I have learnt is never plan for the long term because we don’t know what is going to happen in the future and what shape / turn the situation may take. We can barely tell about tomorrow, how we can be sure that everything will turn out the way we planned. It won’t, I believe life is about trial and errors until we get the right solution. Therefore, now I only figure out things after knowing the full situation and I never plan for anything in the future. All I know is what my goal is, and I will figure out a way to achieve it and assuring me that they are with me in every situation no matter what. And I am so grateful for it
Q. In your opinion, what is the best way to handle criticism?
Answer: The best way to handle criticism is by ignoring the criticism. I believe that what we focus on and what we give attention to grows. So rather than giving any importance to the criticism we should ignore it and keep working towards becoming a better version of ourselves. We should live our life the way we want to live, not how people expect us to. We should do what we want to do not what people expect us to do. I never let anyone’s opinions affect me and that is the one thing that kept me going till now.
Q. One piece of advice that you would like to share with the individuals who want to join the beauty pageant industry.
Answer: One piece of advice that I would like to share with the individuals who want to join the beauty pageant industry is that, always be yourself and always be confident in whom you are. The competition is really high and in that environment, we should remember that we are not here to be like someone else instead we are here to be the best versions of ourselves. Be confident, be humble and be yourself.
