Dr. Ankur Sharma from Jammu and Kashmir has been selected as one of the finalists for the 2024 Mrs. India beauty pageant organized by the Glamanand Group. Born in Jammu, she is currently based in Dubai. She holds a PhD in Veterinary Surgery and Radiology and is a licensed surgeon and university professor. She has won a series of awards at the national and international levels; the most recent one is the Women Achievers Award that she on the Republic Day this year. Her hobbies and areas of interest include reading, painting and swimming. This highly educated medical practitioner is a polyglot and knows 5 languages including Hindi, English, Punjabi, Urdu and Marathi. In this exclusive interview with the Beauty High magazine, she talks about her preparations for the Mrs. India 2024 beauty pageant and her journey so far.
Q. Many congratulations to you for getting selected for the national finals of Mrs. India 2024 competition. How does it feel? What were the first thoughts that crossed your mind when you got the news that you have gotten selected to compete at the 2024 Mrs. India contest?
Answer: Thank you very much. It is a wonderful feeling. I was thrilled to know about my selection. As I embark upon this journey, my heart is filled with gratitude. I believe it’s a fresh beginning for my self-reflection. I perceive this platform as my initial stride to express my identity and unspoken aspirations. I am equally excited and anxious too as it’s something new for which I have no experience but I am confident that I will do well.
Q. Tell us more about the place you belong to.
Answer: I was born and brought up at City of Temples, Jammu. The sacred Vaishno Devi temple is here. It's a one of the holiest places in the world. I have completed my schooling from Jammu. For my higher education, I moved to Maharashtra. Now, for more than 2 years, I am a residing in Dubai, It's a beautiful place with skyscrapers, beaches and desert.
Q. Please take us through the significant milestones in your life and how they have shaped you as the person you are today.
Answer: The major events that have shaped my life have been through my profession, having children and through travel. Engaging in the veterinary profession has been a life-changing experience, as it is directly developing connections with pets and their owners, fostering a sense of responsibility and compassion. I faced few challenges in my career but I kept going on. My husband was transferred every 3 years and that has exposed me to diverse cultures in India and abroad. Having children profoundly transformed me with new responsibilities and reshaping priorities, and fostering personal growth. But all these experiences have made me stronger and helped me in discovering a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Q. What are your hobbies and areas of interests, and how do you manage them with the responsibilities that you shoulder?
Answer: I love to paint, swim and dance in my free time. It makes me relaxed and happy. Balancing job, kids and hobbies is definitely a task. It gets tough at times. But I try to prioritize and manage my time to balance my commitments and personal enjoyment.
Q. Please tell us about your family and the role they play in your life
Answer: My parents have always supported me in everything including parenting. My husband is my source of strength, providing emotional support, sharing our responsibilities and always motivating me. He is the reason I am able to participate in Mrs. India. My two beautiful daughters are my pillars of encouragement and love me very much and they pushed me saying, "Mom you can do it, go live your dream," so I am here.
Q. Balancing personal, professional, and family responsibilities can be challenging. How do you manage this delicate balance in your life?
Answer: Juggling personal, professional, and family responsibilities can be difficult at times. But its the inherent strength of being a woman, that helps in maneuvering through various tasks. I try to effectively manage my time and prioritize my responsibilities for all commitments. I set my limits, take help and I am very thankful to my family who supports in me in both personal and professional roles.
Q. What the most crucial piece of advice that you would like to share with the women of this era?
Answer: I believe women nowadays have immense opportunities and challenges. To thrive and contribute meaningfully, they should believe in themselves and their capabilities. Identify your strengths and work on them. Prioritize your mental and physical well-being. Support other women in their journeys. Unity is a powerful force for positive change.

Answer: I express my thanks to each reader for taking the time to read it. I trust everyone should invest in their education.
