Maria Eugênia Mamede, also called Mia Mamede is a 26 year old New York University graduate who completed her bachelor degrees in Audiovisual Journalism and Economics Partner. Being a polyglot, Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Mandarin, and hosts a program on youtube. She is a businesswoman and a philanthropist and works as a model, TV presenter, journalist, Lic in Socio-Economy in New York. Mia is a remarkable speaker and is amongst the top favourites amongst the fans for the upcoming Miss Universe competition. Not known to many, Mia had also won the title of Miss Dubai 2012, when she was attending the American School of Dubai in UAE, she has also studied in China and been a volunteer in Shanghai, back in 2011. We wish her and Brazil best of luck!
13. Say hello to - BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS!
Lia Claxton is an 18 year old athlete and model from the British Virgin Islands. Earlier, she had participated in the Miss Universe British Virgin Islands 2021 pageant where she finished up in the top 3. Proudly standing 6ft, Lia likes to model and is also great at playing the piano. BVI are yet to win their first Miss Universe crown and we are crossing our fingers for Lia this year!
14. Let’s meet - BULGARIA!
Kristina Plamenova is a law graduate and also works as a professional model in Sofia, Bulgaria. She is also not new to the concept of pageantry, having won the annual contest of Miss Sofia in 2019. Kristina loves travelling and has visited many countries all over the world, like Indonesia, Turkey, UAE, Egypt, etc. Having done her masters in law stream, Kristina now is studying software engineering. She is really passionate about saving the environment and works to raise awareness about the consequences of global warming. She is also an ambassador for campaigns against air pollution and dedicates her time and efforts, fighting against environmental ignorance. She believes that self discipline is the key to success. She also loves being sporty as in her words “they release endorphins and make her feel happy and powerful”. Nothing but good wishes for Bulgaria
15. Choum Reap Sur - CAMBODIA!
Another one of the pageant veterans, Miss Cambodia - Manita Hang set her foot into this industry back in 2015 when she was crowned as Miss Tourism Cambodia. She had represented Cambodia at Miss Tourism International Metropolitan 2016, alongside Amanda Obdam of Thailand - who won the title and later competed for the Miss Universe title in the 69th Miss Universe edition. Manita is also a mixed child, being born to a French father and a Cambodian mother. She stands 5ft 6inches tall, she is a professional model who has completed her graduation in the field of Business. Always wishing the best for Cambodia!
16. Bonjour - CAMEROON!
Monalisa Mouketey is a 26 years old youth empowerment advocate and the founder of the Miss Monalisa Charity Foundation, a non-profit organisation running with the objective of helping the underprivileged children in order to improve their future and give them a better lifestyle. She also organises a program called Day of Hope, that is aimed at helping primary school children to get access to their basic school needs. Her organisation also works with child victims of war in the Southwest. She also advocated for youth training with a formal presentation to administrative leaders encouraging them to donate school supplies and training workshops to primary schools. She really loves giving her all to the future of the planet! Standing 180 cms tall, Monalisa is also not new to pageantry and had participated in the Miss Cameroon pageant earlier, finishing as the first runner up there. Previously, she had also won the titles of Miss Commonwealth Africa Charity 2021, Miss University Africa Central 2021, and Miss Beach 2015. Cameroon is yet to win their first Miss Universe crown, and we are hoping for Monalisa to do it for them!
17. Halo - CANADA!
Another very ambitious woman of the universe. Amelia is a 21 year old student, studying biology and business at the University of California. At such a young age, Amelia is a business entrepreneur, running two small businesses - one in the clothing and one in the skincare industry. She is also a member of the National Women Business Owner Association in Canada. Her business is based on organic materials and her aim is to promote environmental protection through her organic and environmentally friendly brands - Amelia Tuu Brands. She has a wide range of interests and hobbies, but the one that she really cant live without is that of dancing. She has been dancing from the age of six and has also won various medals and awards for her skills. She had also won the title of Miss Chinese Rose Princess in 2020. Wishing Canada all the best for MU’22 with this Chinese Canadian Goddess!
18. Please Welcome - THE CAYMAN ISLANDS!
Another bit of drama we shall be addressing later on. Anyway, Chloe Powery-Doxey is a 25 year old, who was the first runner up at the Miss Cayman Island 2022 pageant. However, the organisation had to appoint her as the national representative at Miss Universe because of the involvement of the actual winner in some legal controversies. Growing up with a schizophrenic mother who was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Chloe discusses her mental health and coping mechanisms. She is an advocate for self love and teaches how to take care of oneself on your own. She also discussed how growing up in a dysfunctional family made her a really angry child, and how she used basketball to protect her sanity and calm herself down. For someone that has had a rough childhood and now a really dicey pageant journey, Chloe is surely one mature, responsible, inspirational icon. We hope to see her make the Cayman Islands proud in january!
19. Como Eres? - CHILE!
Standing 5ft 8.5 inches tall, Sofia Depassier is also one of the pageant veterans. She had previously participated in the Miss Teen South Florida back in 2004 and had also won the title of Miss Photogenic. Very surprisingly, that was also the last time Chile placed at the prestigious Miss Universe pageant ever and the country has been waiting for them to make the first cut ever since. Sofia is a professional model back in her home country Chile. Chile is yet to win their second Miss Universe crown and we wish them All the best for the Miss Universe 2022 pageant.
20. Ni Hao - CHINA!
Jiang Sichen is a 26 years old investment banking analyst, who pursued her graduation in Cambridge University. She is also a speaker and presenter and has als worked as a valuation and modelling analyst in the merger and acquisition department. She graduated from the University of Cambridge in Real Estate Finance and the University of Manchester in Accounting and Finance. She volunteered as a tutor and educated many kids in rural areas. During the pandemic, she worked as a volunteer on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19. She also joined a non-profit organisation, China Youth of Tomorrow, to serve ambitious, low-income, first-generation college students.She also goes by the name of Alice. She is a young ambitious queen and we wish her best of luck for the Miss Universe 2022 pageant!
21. Encantada - COLOMBIA!
Have you ever heard anyone say - Trust in the divine timing of the Universe? Well, This is your sign to believe in this motto. Crowned as Miss Universe Colombia back in 2019, Maria Fernanda Aristizábal Urrea was meant to represent her nation at the Miss Universe 2020 pageant. However, Senorita Colombia, her organisation lost the franchise of the Miss Universe pageant to Natalie Ackermann, who later announced that Maria shall not be representing Colombia at Miss Universe that year. Speculations were made for two years, betting on which pageant shall Mafe be sent, but it was Universe or nothing for this Colombian queen. Fans prayed to see her grace the Miss Universe stage and our prayers were answered in 2022 when the Miss Universe Colombia organisation appointed her as the national representative for the Miss Universe pageant.
22. Nice to Meet You - COSTA RICA!
María Fernanda Rodríguez Ávila is a 24 years old Costa Rican model who hold a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. She is yet another pageant veteran in this year’s batch of the universe. She won the title of Reina Teen Costa Rica Intercontinental 2012 pageant, making her the Costa Rican representative to Miss Teen Mesoamérica Internacional 2013, where she was crowned as the winner. She also competed at the Miss Teen Universe 2015 pageant and also made it to the list of finalists there. Later, she was also sent to represent Costa Rica at the Miss Earth pageant in 2017 - held in the Philippines where she failed to make the first cut for Costa Rica. Having been through so many national and international pageants, she is surely one of the strong competitors for this year's Miss Universe contest. After sending queens like Ivonne back in the 2020’s edition, we sure hope to see a phenomenal performance from Costa Rica this year as well. All the best!
