The New York Film Critics Circle has awarded SS Rajamouli the title of Best Director
The New York Film Critics Circle has awarded SS Rajamouli the title of Best Director.
On Friday, SS Rajamouli, director of the film RRR, was named the year's best director by the New York Film Critics Circle. This group is among the first of its kind to offer its opinions on the upcoming awards season. Most people were taken aback by Rajamouli's victory, given the caliber of his rivals (who included Spielberg, Aronofsky, Polley, and Prince-Blythewood).
Tar, directed by Todd Field, won Best Picture and Best Actress for Cate Blanchett at the New York Film Critics Circle. Best Actor awards went to Colin Farrell for his work in two films this year: After Yang, a science fiction film set in the future directed by Kogonada, and The Banshees of Inisherin, a drama directed by Martin McDonagh. Keke Palmer won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Nope, and Ke Huy Quan won the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.
The film RRR has been met with resounding success in international markets, prompting distributor Variance Film to launch an extensive Oscars campaign. The film, which features Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the leading roles, is vying for nominations in a wide variety of categories, such as Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and more.
After grossing over Rs 1200 crore worldwide, the film became one of India's highest-grossing films of all time and was praised by critics in India. However, the Indian Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did not choose it as the country's 2023 Oscar submission.
