Journey to the crown: An exclusive interview with Aishwika Gupta, Miss Teen Diva 2023-24 finalist
Aishwika Gupta from Haryana has been selected as one of the finalists for the nation’s biggest and most prestigious beauty pageant for teenagers and adolescents - Miss Teen Diva. Born in Gwalior, Aishwaka is currently based in Gurugram and is a student of computer science and engineering. A former head girl and academic prodigy, Aishwika is a three-time district level badminton champion and has also won several debate competitions in the past. She speaks two languages, Hindi and English. In this exclusive interview with the Beauty High Magazine, she talks about her preparations for the Miss Teen Diva finals and her journey till now.
Q. Many congratulations to you for getting selected for the national finals of Miss Teen Diva 2023-24 competition. How does it feel? What were the first thoughts that crossed your mind when you got the news that you have gotten selected to compete at the 2024 Miss Teen Diva contest?
Answer: Thank you so much for your wishes. It felt absolutely surreal when I got this big news. I was with my friends, when I got the notification on my mail. I froze for two minutes, as I imagined myself in the pageant and on stage competing for the prestigious crown. I absolutely loved the feeling, and that’s when I realised, I’m meant for it and it is meant for me. I decided that I am going to work hard, and to do what it takes to win. “I’ll try my best”, I promised to myself.
Q. Tell us more about the place you belong to.
Answer: I was born in the historical city, Gwalior of the state Madhya Pradesh. Sadly, I couldn’t spend much time there since shortly after that my dad got transferred to Gurugram. I have spent most of my childhood growing up in this beautiful city. Gurugram is not just a city; it's a shining beacon of India's growth and development, a testament to our country's dynamism and youthful energy. The city's skyline, dotted with skyscrapers and high-rise buildings, is a visual representation of our dreams and ambitions. Gurugram is more than just my hometown; it's a microcosm of modern India, a place where tradition meets modernity, where dreams are nurtured, and where the future is being shaped, every single day. It's a city that doesn't just dwell in my address but resides in the spirit of who I am. Bottom of Form
Q. Enlighten us in regards to your preparations for the upcoming Miss Teen Diva competition.
Answer: Well, I would say the preparations have been going really well. Our national director, Nikhil Anand sir conducts our regular classes and we've been attending regular sessions held by our respective mentors as well. Apart from this, I keep practicing all the important elements of the pageant, like the question and answer round, walk, interview, etc. just like every other contestant is doing.
Q. In your opinion, what are the qualities / traits that you believe could help you move ahead in the competition?
Answer: I believe that in the world of pageantry, my communication skills combined with intellect and confidence could really help me to get ahead in the competition. And of course, hardwork, consistency and patience without any doubt are the even more important qualities that would help me to ace the competition.
Q. Tell us something about your hobbies and areas of interest.
Answer: My hobbies include playing sports, writing, nature walks and spending time with my loved ones. I always make sure I take some time out every day to enjoy these things which hold a very special place in my heart.
Q. Any quote or saying that has a profound impact on you.
Answer: I do have many favourite quotes. But the one I love the most and the one I'm currently relating heavily to, is "it is often the small steps, not the giant leaps, that bring about the most lasting change".
I believe, when we really want to achieve a goal, it looks so far away and so high up, we think it's impossible for us to make that big of a leap. Although, if we work towards our goal by taking tiny steps, one day we'll reach so high, we won't realise until we look down to see where we started.
Q. Who / what is your biggest support system?
Answer: My biggest support system would definitely be my parents and friends. Despite all the negative perspectives and the stereotypes that exist in the society, my parents never thought that way and never discouraged me. And, my friends have always been by my side through thick and thin.
My parents and my friends have always been equally invested in my goals and I’ll always be grateful for that. They’re happy when I’m happy, they’re sad when I’m sad, this is the kind of unconditional love that I cherish the most. I owe everything that I have achieved or will achieve in the future to them.
Q. When you look back in time, what is the biggest life lesson that you have learnt?
Answer: This particular incident took place many years ago. But I clearly remember this one match that I played during my badminton state championship. My match was against a very strong player and she had many people with her while, I just had my parents and my coach standing behind me. Her supporters hooted a lot during the match, cheered for her and booed me. I was 12 years old back then, and the situation was overwhelming. I could not give my best and lost the game. That day, my parents scolded me, not because I lost but because I gave up and did not give my best. That day I learnt that winning or losing is secondary in life while, making efforts is primary. Giving it my all would matter more than anything else and I consider this as my biggest lesson in life.
Q. In your opinion, what is the best way to handle criticism?
Answer: I am in the favour of constructive criticism, but in my opinion you should be selective in the people you take criticism from. They should be the ones who have seen your preparation, your growth, your failures and as well as your successes. I believe they are the ones who can you give you genuine and precise criticism which you should take in a positive way and not to your heart. You should not let the random strangers on the internet, or the people who do not know you well ruin your day by saying something that won't help you in any way.
Q. One piece of advice that you would like to share with the individuals who want to join the beauty pageant industry.
Answer: In my opinion, pageants make you learn a lot if you do them seriously. They help in your overall personality development by boosting confidence, inculcating formal etiquettes and by involving and forcing you to think and talk about concerning issues in the society.
