Deepshikha Lakra from New Delhi has been selected as one of the finalists for the 2024 Mrs. India beauty pageant organized by the Glamanand Group. Born and brought up in the national capital city, New Delhi, Deepshikha completed her higher education from the University of Delhi. She describes herself as an artistic person and likes to sing and paint. She is a polyglot and can speak 3 languages including Hindi, English and Haryanvi. In this exclusive interview with the Beauty High magazine, she talks about her preparations for the Mrs. India 2024 beauty pageant and her journey so far.
Q. Many congratulations to you for getting selected for the national finals of Mrs. India 2024 competition. How does it feel? What were the first thoughts that crossed your mind when you got the news that you have gotten selected to compete at the 2024 Mrs. India contest?
Answer: I believe that life is a journey that we must fulfill in various stages every day, every moment. For a woman, this journey is always unique and significant. When I learned that I had been chosen for the Miss India Pageant, I felt a different positive energy within myself. To be honest, I didn't feel any fear or nervousness. The only thought that crossed my mind was, "Another journey is beginning for me, and I must complete it successfully." The fear of winning or losing is not greater than the satisfaction of knowing that this journey will build character, maturity, discipline, and virtues within me.
Q. Tell us more about the place you belong to.
Answer: Fortunately, I am from Delhi, and they say, "Delhi is the heart's beloved." History attests that Delhi has been the epitome of grandeur for kings and emperors. Even today, it is the heart of the nation, the capital, as everyone knows. The diverse culture, lifestyle, and cuisine here are famous both nationally and internationally.The narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk, the markets around the Red Fort, intersections, the street food in Parathe Wali Gali, the charm of the Metro – the hustle and bustle of the crowds going up and down the metro stairs in the morning and evening, all bring peace to the mind. It feels like no one is alone here. Despite everyone being busy, in the evening, people standing together in the streets of the neighborhood, laughing, give the impression that no one is solitary.
Q. Please take us through the significant milestones in your life and how they have shaped you as the person you are today.
Answer: I believe that one should never wish for a life without challenges. Every individual is living through their own struggles each day. We wake up, walk, fall, and then rise again. This process continues in our lives. Like any ordinary person, my life is also filled with struggles. There was a time when I completely accepted defeat and felt disheartened. However, that challenging period taught me a lot. I experienced a significant transformation in my personality. I learned to handle myself even in the worst situations, gained discipline, patience, and resilience. Emerging from that difficult time, I am now a positive individual with increased self-confidence, a courageous person who sees herself as resilient. I believe that if you want to do something different in life, you have to embrace your struggles. Only then can you move forward, learn, and fulfill your dreams. This is the essence of life. Life is not inherently beautiful; it needs to be made beautiful. Today, I am capable of giving my life a beautiful form, and I take pride in it.
Q. What are your hobbies and areas of interests, and how do you manage them with the responsibilities that you shoulder?
Answer: I find joy in expressing myself through art. I am an art enthusiast, deeply passionate about various forms of creative expression. By God's grace, I can sing well, create beautiful paintings, and engage in effective acting. These activities come naturally to me. I maintain complete honesty towards anything or anyone I love. The duties towards my family are not a hindrance or burden for me; I fulfill them willingly. Therefore, I have never had to suppress my passion. Instead, I have organized my daily routine to accommodate and nourish my hobbies without any constraints. I allocate specific time in my schedule solely to fulfill my desires, such as taking online acting classes, occasionally recording songs in my voice, and creating cultural artworks like miniatures, Kalankari, Mithila, or canvas. Being a law student and a UPSC aspirant, I also have a passion for reading. Therefore, whenever time allows, I indulge in reading books. My participation in competitions also attests to my capability to fulfill both my responsibilities and aspirations simultaneously.
Q. Please tell us about your family and the role they play in your life
Answer: In my family, I have my mother, brother, and sister-in-law, who reside abroad. My husband works in an Emirati company at the airport overseas. I am fortunate to be the mother of a five-year-old son. My father, a government official (Gazetted Officer), worked in his official capacity until I lost him at a young age. However, my mother, with unwavering strength, fulfilled not only the duties of a mother but also those of a father. She is a strong woman and my inspiration. In 2019, she retired as the principal from a government school. I have learned from her how to face and move forward through life's adversities. After my father's passing, my mother displayed unprecedented courage, akin to the Kohinoor of history. The way she managed the family without succumbing to circumstances is a testament to her fortitude. The depths of my thoughts, maturity, and decision-making abilities have been instilled by her. She stood firm on her feet, making decisions with profound wisdom. I have learned from her how a woman should assert her rights and make decisions. She was like the Manikarnika of history, facing challenges head-on. The ability to make mature decisions, assert one's rights, and fulfill responsibilities were lessons learned from her. Life becomes simple and beautiful when your life partner is good. I thank God for blessing me with a life partner who has a positive mindset and thoughts. My husband has always wished for my success more than I have wished for myself. Today, in the competition, I have achieved success with the support of my mother and husband. Their significant contributions have been instrumental in every achievement in my life.
Q. Balancing personal, professional, and family responsibilities can be challenging. How do you manage this delicate balance in your life?
Answer: As I have mentioned before, when a person embraces their responsibilities with love rather than considering them a burden, nothing seems challenging. Everything becomes simple. For me, my family and my work are very important. With love, everything can be done with ease. And that is what I do as well.
Q. What the most crucial piece of advice that you would like to share with the women of this era?
Answer: In my opinion, it is the responsibility of a woman to shoulder not only her family but the entire society. A woman, who nurtures the future generation, provides nourishment not only in terms of food but also fosters the development of their thoughts. In the role of a mother, she guides the child to distinguish between right and wrong, instilling a sense of social responsibilities. Therefore, it is crucial for a woman to be empowered, educated, and economically self-reliant. Just as a woman plays a vital role in building a healthy and beautiful family at home, similarly, her empowerment is extremely necessary for a healthy society. I would like to say to every woman in society, spread your wings and give flight to your dreams. Become self-reliant; don't let anyone else control your remote. Whatever you do, whatever field you choose, do it with complete honesty. The world remains incomplete without the contribution of women.
Q. Lastly, any message for the readers.
Answer: In life, with all the abilities you possess, help others. In this world, there are many people who may have more suffering than us, possibly living in circumstances opposite to ours. Always observe those beneath you and consider yourself fortunate that the Divine has granted you such a good life. Express gratitude every moment, every second. And, as much as possible, help those in need. Believe that you will feel both inner strength and peace.
