Journey to the crown – An exclusive interview with Carrisaa Bopanna, Miss Teen Diva 2023-24 finalist
Carrisaa Bopanna hailing from Coorg has been selected as one of the finalists for the nation’s biggest and most prestigious beauty pageant for teenagers and adolescents - Miss Teen Diva. She is a student of fashion design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru. Prior to moving to Bengaluru, she has also lived in Muscat, Oman. Along with being a student, she is also a professional model and has worked with some well-known brands like Ajio, Label Ritu Kumar and Suneet Verma. In addition to that she is a Guinness World Record holder in crocheting and also enjoys horse riding. Carrisaa is a polyglot and can speak 4 languages including Kannada, Kodavatak, English and Hindi. Apart from this, she can also understand Tamil and Malayalam. In this exclusive interview with the Beauty High Magazine, she talks about her preparations for the Miss Teen Diva finals and her journey till now.
Q. Many congratulations to you for getting selected for the national finals of Miss Teen Diva 2023-24 competition. How does it feel? What were the first thoughts that crossed your mind when you got the news that you have gotten selected to compete at the Miss Teen Diva 2023-24 contest?
Answer: Thank you so much. It was pleasant surprise. The moment I got to know about my selection, I ran up to my mother and said to her – “I got selected.” I was indeed very excited when I received this news. It felt like a new chapter in my life was about to begin. I feel extremely grateful and happy that I got this opportunity. .
Q. Please tell us more about the place you belong to.
Answer: I belong to Coorg. Coorg is rich in culture, known for its beautiful wildlife and breathtaking greenery. It is one of the biggest producers of coffee and it is also known for its beautiful women. The people of Coorg also referred to as Kodavas, take pride in themselves and their culture. Coorg will surely capture your hearts the minute you step into this beautiful hill station with its food, greenery and hospitality.
Q. Enlighten us regarding your preparations for the upcoming Miss Teen Diva competition.
Answer: I am preparing as hard as I can; making sure to practice every day while correcting my mistakes along the way. My team captain, Trishna and Nikhil sir have been guiding me throughout the journey so I can be the best version of my self during the pageant.
Q. In your opinion, what are the qualities / traits that you believe could help you move ahead in the competition?
Answer: I believe confidence is one of the most valuable possessions that one can have. I’ve seen my mother reach great heights in her field with the confidence she carried (and still carries) and I believe I’ve learnt that quality of hers which will help me move ahead in the competition. I want to leave behind an impact and impression with the confidence I’m going to hold and the passion I have towards winning this pageant but it’s also important to understand the difference between confidence and overconfidence, because overconfidence never yields anything good.
Q. Tell us something about your hobbies and areas of interest.
Answer: I love to dance, go for horseback riding and crocheting. Dancing has the power to make me feel happy and get into a cheerful mood and horse riding is a sport I truly enjoy because I love horses and it’s a very difficult activity to perform and I love challenges which made me want to learn it. Crocheting is a very difficult yet peaceful , if you get the techniques right then it is truly the most relaxing activity.
Q. Any quote or saying that has a profound impact on you.
Answer: “You go through life wondering what is it all about, but at the end of the day, it's all about family." - Rod Stewart. This saying is a very important aspect of my life. Being the only child I grew up watching my parents working really hard for me so that I can have the best future and I have immense love and respect towards my parents for all that they have done for me. I want to pay them back by making them proud and providing them with absolutely everything. At the end of the day it’s always your parents that have your back.
Q. Who / what is your biggest support system?
Answer: My parents are my biggest support system. I can see it in their eyes that they believe their daughter is going to make it big in this industry of modeling and pageantry. They have always told me to be confident and go ahead in whatever field I want to. They stand by me when I get scared what my relatives would say to them because we live in a society where the parents are targeted first but that never stopped my parents from believing in me and supporting me and for that I’m forever grateful to them.
Q. When you look back in time, what is the biggest life lesson that you have learnt?
Answer: My biggest life lesson is to not waste time; not waste time on things that have no future with or people that bring you down. I’m someone who gives their all into things but it’s important to realize what is good or bad for you, and it’s important to take a step back the minute something doesn’t feel right and not prolong it for the sake of it. But that’s what life is, it keeps on giving you lessons to learn.
Q. In your opinion, what is the best way to handle criticism?
Answer: Ignore - that’s what i do, even though it hurts sometimes, I believe i have the mental strength to fight the criticism. Criticism comes from people who are either jealous of your achievements or have nothing better to do. So it’s important to get your priorities straight, ignore the negative comments and move towards your goals.
Q. One piece of advice that you would like to share with the individuals who want to join the beauty pageant industry.
Answer. Beauty pageant industry is full of opportunities. You should have a purpose towards life and for the people of the society. Regardless of how prepared you are for a pageant, you are going to learn something new from every experience. Every pageant is different, with different competitors, judges, teams, different space etc. So, be open to learning new things and accept positive and negative feedbacks. Whether you win the crown or not it’s important that you learn something from the experience and grow into a better individual. You learn a valuable lesson during each phase of your pageant career.
